Glazing Technique
Already nearly finished with my second painting! For this assignment the goal was to create a composition with rocks in water and gradually desaturate the colors by layering sheer layers of saturated colors. When I say gradually, I mean gradually. Honestly, I cannot wait for this assignment to be over because glazing is such a tedious process. To the left is my underpainting. All the colors are very saturated, and I have basically only blocked out the basic shapes of the rocks. With painting, you want to work general to specific.
To the right is my progress as of today. Many layers later, I have muted a lot of the colors, added dimension, and added some patterns to the rocks that have stripes of a granite texture. I have also finally gotten to a point where I can begin to add white to the quartz rocks, and any highlights to the jar and the water line. I only have one day left until this painting is due, so I am praying that I can pull this together and make this a painting that I actually want to hang on my wall.
Oh my gosh, the rocks are looking so good! The water effect is amazing. The photo of the progression from the initial painting to where it is now is actually insane. I had never heard of the glazing technique, so that was super cool to read about!! Really great work!
